Counselling

What is Counselling?

Counselling falls under the umbrella term ‘talking therapies’ and provides a safe and confidential environment for you to talk to a trained professional about your problems and any difficult feelings you are experiencing. Therapy is a process that people often seek when they want to change something in their lives, or simply explore their thoughts and feelings safely in more depth. I will help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others. Together we may then look to create a plan of action to either help you resolve your issues or help you to find ways of coping.

Methods

Face To Face

This is when you make an appointment with me and meet in person.

Locations in Coventry, Nuneaton, Leamington and Solihull.

Locations

Online

Online therapy allows you to get the help you need, wherever you are, during a time that suits you. Some people prefer the zoom online sessions as it allows for visual contact. At a chosen session time slot, we will both log on to Zoom private room (which will be secure and confidential).

Online sessions can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. This format also tends to be more flexible and can potentially reduce your waiting time to start therapy.

Telephone

For some, telephone counselling offers a helpful alternative to face-to-face counselling. This involves us having sessions together over the phone instead of in person. This form of counselling can be particularly useful for many reasons including, those too busy to attend, have difficulty in travelling or Covid-19 restrictions. Telephone sessions can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. This format also tends to be more flexible and can potentially reduce your waiting time to start therapy.

Approach

Integrative Counselling

As an Integrative Counsellor my training allows me to draw from a range of approaches, including Person Centred, Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which enables me to tailor the therapy to suit you and your individual needs.

Person Centred

Approach

Person-centred therapy is based on the belief that everyone has the capacity and desire for personal growth and change, given the right conditions.

This approach facilitates your personal growth through exploration and develops your

own strengths and personal identity.

Psychodynamic Approach

The Psychodynamic approach emphasises the importance of your past experiences and how they shape your current behaviour.

Once you feel in a safe and trusting in the therapeutic relationship, you are encouraged to explore your childhood and past life experience and relationships.

This approach aims to help you to unravel, experience and understand your true and deep-rooted feelings in order to resolve and separate your past from your present.

Cognative Behavioural

Approach

CBT aims to help you change the way you think (cognitive) and what you do (behaviour).

It focuses on the current issues you are experiencing and works on practical solutions to help you feel better now.

It aims to break down problems into smaller more managble  parts so you no longer feel overwelmed.

Other Approaches

Include Creative therapy, Gestalt therapy, Solution-focused brief therapy and Transactional analysis
